Audi Q2

Audi Q2 Review 2023 Exterior Side
7/10

The most recent addition to Audi’s ‘Q’ family of crossover SUVs, the Q2 SUV also takes the crown as the most affordable Audi to insure thanks to its group 14 insurance. To get this benefit you need to stick with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (badged as 30 TFSI) which does need to be worked hard on the motorway. Around town, though, it’s a peppy companion that ably assists in making the most of the Q2’s nifty handling.

Around town is where the Audi Q2 has been designed to excel. Audi's answer to the likes of the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008, the Q2 mixes a higher driving position than a typical car, but still has those all-important compact dimensions to make it a doddle round town.

In entry-level Technik trim it's a bit light on standard features however. It's a shame there's only manually controlled air con, while sat nav is an optional extra. However, there is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can hook your phone up to the Q2 and get Waze or Google Maps to show you the way on the 8.3-inch display.

Audi A3 Sportback

8/10

You could argue that the A3 Sportback is just a posher version of the VW Golf, but the A3 has been a staple of Audi’s range for two decades and this generation is the best yet because it focuses on what the German firm does best. That’s delivering superb quality in every part of the car you come into contact with coupled to a straightforward, comfortable drive.

Okay, a BMW 1 Series is more entertaining to drive, but many are drawn to the A3’s more spacious cabin with lots of soft-touch materials and an ultra-modern design. It's also very well equipped for the money, coming with navigation and Audi's Virtual Cockpit as standard on all trim levels.

The Audi A3 is also one of the cheapest premium small hatches to get covered, with the 2.0-litre diesel with 116PS (badged 30 TDI rather confusingly) ably assisted by group 15 insurance.

Audi A3 Saloon

Audi A3 Saloon Review 2023: front
8/10

It might be easy to overlook the Audi A3 Saloon alongside the A3 Sportback, but this handsome saloon shouldn’t be ignored. It's not as practical as its hatchback sibling granted, but you can't ignore the more elegant profile. If you're running big saloon and want to downsize without sacrificing quality, then this is a great choice.

As with the A3 Sportback, the A3 with a boot enjoys the same simple yet elegant cabin, while there's an impressive array of tech as well, with all trim levels getting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The level of soundproofing is excellent, which includes an acoustic windscreen, means you can expect little in the way of wind and road noise.

While we'd be tempted with either the 1.5-litre or 2.0 petrol engines, they push insurance up, so you'll want to go with the 1.0-litre turbo-charged petrol engine with 110PS (badged 30 TFSI).

Audi A1

Insurance group 16

Audi A1 Review 2023 Exterior Front
7/10

While there are plenty of cheap and cheerful city cars to choose from, the Audi A1 is perfect for those looking for something a little more sophisticated but don't want to go down that whole retro route that the likes of MINI has done.

The A1 offers all of the quality materials and construction strength you expect of Audi's larger models, but packaged in a way that’s a doddle to drive around town and park.

The second-generation A1 has as little more edge to it that the more conservative first generation model, with a more distinctive design, while there's also plenty of kit as standard.

To enjoy group 16 insurance you'll need to pick a 25 TFSI turbo petrol 1.0-litre unit, in either Sport or Technik trim levels. It might not be the most powerful engine out there, but it whirrs away happily at all speeds and has a claimed average consumption of 60mpg.

Audi A4 Avant

While SUVs might grab all the headlines, you shouldn't overlook look a quality estate if you've got a lot of stuff to lug about and the Audi A4 Avant is one of the best around.

Space is going to be one of your main concerns looking at an estate and the A4 Avant is a match for its closest rivals, the BMW 3 Series Touring and Mercedes C-Class Estate. This sees a very useable 505-litre boot that's complimented by a powered tailgate, while dropping the seats delivers a maximum capacity of 1510 litres. That should be more than enough for most busy lives, but if you need more space, then the A4 Avant's sibling, the Volkswagen Passat Estate and Skoda Superb Estate both beat the A4 Avant in boot space.

It's not just about space in the back, with the cabin a great blend of comfort and refinement. There is a 2.0-litre petrol (badged 35 TFSI) but we'd encourage you to look at the 2.0-litre turbodiesel motor (the 35 TDI). It's no ball of fire, but it’s a fair exchange for group 19 insurance that makes the A4 Avant very affordable. If you're after the A4 saloon, it too starts in group 19.

Audi Q3

Insurance group 23

Audi Q3 Review 2023 Exterior Front
8/10

The Audi Q3 has been a big hit for Audi and it’s easy to see why. This small SUV occupies no more road space than the Audi A3 it’s based on, yet you get that all-important raised driving position and a bit more ground clearance to cope with poor road surfaces.

The Q3 isn't that exciting to drive, but if you're plumping for an SUV, that's not going to be at the top of your list. What you do get is a refined and comfy drive that happily copes with most road conditions. It’s also blessed with good boot space at 540 litres and a well-appointed interior typical for Audi. Perhaps not quite as impressive as the one found in the Volvo XC40, but it certainly doesn't disappoint and there's plenty of space to.

To hit insurance group 23 you'll need to spec the Q3 in entry-level Technik trim with the 35 TFSI petrol engine. With 150PS, this 1.5-litre petrol engine has a decent amount of power and comes with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Audi A5 Coupe

Bet you didn’t think you’d be looking at one of the sleekest coupes on the road when we started talking about reasonable insurance groups? The Audi A5 Coupe is a hugely desirable car that will be the envy of your neighbours (and the company car park when we're all back at work).

To get an Audi A5 with low insurance you'll need to pick the entry-level Sport trim and the good news is you're certainly well catered for when it comes to standard features. This includes leather seats, LED lights, three-zone climate control and Audi's gorgeous 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit.

The lower-powered 35 TFSI engine might run out of puff if you've got a windy B-road to enjoy, but this 2.0-litre 150PS petrol engine is fine for normal driving. It might not be the most engaging drive then, but when it looks this good both inside and out, that's soon forgotten.

Audi Q5

Insurance group 27

Audi Q5 Review 2024 Exterior Front
8/10

The Audi Q5 is one of the best-selling SUVs, so makes sense then that Audi didn't want to rock the boat with this second-generation model. After all, the styling is very much derived from the original version and the drive is an exercise in box-ticking from the big book of mid-sized premium SUVs. in a nutshell then it's comfy, quiet and handles well enough without every standing out in any specific way.

You could think that the Q5 is a bit on the dull side then, but hang on. It’s more a straightforward case of the Q5 being unerringly capable at everything, happily accommodating a family of five with a large 600 litre boot.

While Audi overs the Q5 as a plug-in hybrid version that features a 2.0-litre petrol engine that’s paired with a 14.1kWh battery (with onboard charger), for low insurance premiums you'll want the ever-dependable 190PS 2.0-litre diesel engine that mixes performance and fuel economy.

Audi A6 Avant

Insurance group 30

Audi A6 Avant Review 2024: front three quarter photo of the Audi A6 Avant
8/10

The A6 Avant is a definitive model in Audi’s vast smorgasbord of models. The perfect choice if you need to regularly lug lots of stuff around, the boot is vast at 565 litres and folding the rear seats frees up enough room to cope with any family’s needs.

It may be big on space in the boot, but Audi hasn't forgotten about its occupants. Not only will you be cocooned in one of the German's marques most sumptuous interiors, but there's more than enough space for four adults to sit in comfort.

The 286PS 50 TDI quattro is effortlessly quick and smooth, but this six-cylinder diesel unit will push the premium up. Instead, check out the 40 TDI. This 204PS 2.0-litre diesel is the most affordable to insure, while it's also cheaper to run and tax than the petrol variant, making it the most sense, especially with an official 60.1mpg. You'll also find that the A6 saloon starts in group 30.

Audi TT Coupe

Insurance group 33

Audi TT Review 2024: Exterior Back
8/10

More appealing than ever before, the Audi TT Coupe features some neat little design cues from Audi’s R8 supercar, while the short overhangs result in a very attractive and proportioned car.

Step inside the TT Coupe and you’ll be struck how simple the control layout is. The minimal design sees only an essential amount of buttons set into the console, while the three large vents are a nice design touch. With no space for a central screen, Audi’s rather cleverly replaced the physical instruments with a large 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit.

Despite its compact dimensions, the TT Coupe has been engineered to accommodate two rear passenger seats, perfect for two children if you’re looking for an excuse to have something a bit more fun than a hatchback for the school run. Audi's ditched the diesel engine from the current TT, so the entry-level 40 TFSI 2.0-litre petrol with 197PS delivers the cheapest insurance on a new model.

You might think that the cheapest Audi to insure is the neat little A1 city car, but it's actually the Q2 compact crossover with group 13 insurance.

Audi cars do tend to be more expensive to insure than average because the they're premium cars that command higher prices. This means that if you have an accident, they can be more expensive to repair or replace, pushing up your insurance premiums.

Yes, Audi offers a three year fixed price car insurance, with the price only changing if your circumstances do. It's certainly worth getting a quote, but do shop around with other insurance providers to make sure you get the best price.
