Details and prices have been announced for Hyundai's smallest electric model so far, the Inster.
Arrive on UK shores in the first half of 2025, the Hyundai Inster is a four-seat city car with a range of up to 229 miles on a single battery charge. The Inster promises plenty of the latest advanced driver safety features and a flexible interior to maximise passenger space, luggage room or both.
Prices start at £23,495, and the Hyundai Inster will be a rival to cars like the Dacia Spring and Citroen’s e-C3.
New 2025 Hyundai Inster: price and release date
Although prices have been announced for the new Inster, it's not due to arrive here until the Spring of 2025. Prices start at £23,495 for the entry level 01 trim with a 97PS electric motor and a 42kWh battery, rising to £25,045 for the same trim with a 49kWh battery and 115PS. The top-spec Inster 02 trim, which is only available withv the 49kWh battery, costs from £26,745.
Options include extra paint colours ranging from £300 to £800, as well as a two-tone roof option taht costs an extra £500.
New 2025 Hyundai Inster: interior and exterior
The Hyundai Inster has a futuristic look, with eye-catching exterior features such as its wide wheel arches, chunky bumpers inspired by a circuit board and pixel-like LED running lights. Depending on the model, it rides on 15-inch alloy wheels or larger 17-inch versions.
Inside, there’s a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a digital driver display of the same size, with more pixel-themed design. Three interior colours – black, brown and beige two-tone – will be available, with cloth upholstery. Hyundai says much of the car features sustainable materials, including paint made from old tyres and plastics recycled from bottles.
Versatility is a key selling point for the Hyundai Inster, with all seats able to fold flat, including both front seats. Hyundai promises the options of a front bench seat and heated front seats and steering wheel. The second row seats can slide backward or forwards, and are split 50:50 for extra flexibility. The boot is fairly generous for this type of car with a 280-litre capacity, expandable to 351 litres with the back seats moved forward.
New 2025 Hyundai Inster: electric motors and batteries
Two options have been announced for the new Hyundai Inster. The entry-level model, available with the Inster 01, uses a 97PS electric motor with a 42kWh battery, promising an expected range of up to 203 miles on a full charge.
Meanwhile, the more powerful long-range version has a 115PS motor and a 49kWh battery for a range of up to 229 miles. It should be noticed that these ranges are targets for Hyundai and haven’t yet been confirmed through independent testing.
AC charging at up to 11kW takes up to four hours, or just over four and a half hours for the long-range model.
New 2025 Hyundai Inster: trim levels
There will be two trims for the Hyundai Inster in the UK. The entry level trim is called simply the Inster 01, and it's available with either battery option. As standard, it features 15-inch alloy wheels and rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera. The full infotainment system is inclulded, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for smartphone connectivity, and there's adaptive cruise control too. Climate control and electric, heated door mirrors are also bundled in.
Upgrade to the Inster 02 and you'll get some extra features, including 17-inch alloys and upgraded LED headlights and taillights, as well as tinted windows and roof rails. inside, there's ambient lighting with a choice of 64 colours, as well as front seats that can fold flat and rear seats that can slide forwards and backwards for extra flexibility in legroom and boot space. Heated seats and a heated steering wheel are included, as is a wireless phone charger.
The 02 is also available with an optional Tech Pack, which includes a vehicle to load (V2L) system that lets you use the Inster's battery to power a three-pin plug. It also features a digital key system that lets you unlock and start the car with a smartphone.
