New 2024 Range Rover Electric: Price, specs and release date

The new Range Rover Electric will be the first pure EV luxury SUV from the brand when it opens for ordering later in 2024.

A waiting list for the new Range Rover Electric is now open for those keen to be the first in the queue for the luxury new electric car. As its release date approaches, more details of the new Range Rover Electric will be released – including its range and performance.

Teaser images suggest the new Range Rover Electric will visually be almost identical to the existing Range Rover, which is available with regular petrol and diesel engines along with a plug-in hybrid.

The new Range Rover Electric will face a growing number of luxury electric SUV rivals, including the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. Other high-end electric luxury cars include the Porsche Taycan and Rolls-Royce Spectre.

New 2024 Range Rover Electric: price and release date

The new Range Rover Electric will be released for pre-ordering later in 2024. For now, the company has set up a waiting list, and is inviting people eager to be first in line to sign up for it.

The new Range Rover Electric will be a decidedly high-end model. Prices are expected to start from alt least £125,000. Many models will be sold at prices exceeding £150,000 – but demand for the regular Range Rover proves there are plenty of customers willing to spend so much.

New 2024 Range Rover Electric: exterior and interior

The new Range Rover Electric has currently only been teased in preliminary close-up shots. However, they appear to confirm the design will not stray too far from the look of today’s petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid Range Rovers.

The new Range Rover Electric will have the same beautifully clean and pure lines, with only “subtle clues” giving away its electric secrets. Expect smart bronze inlays and jewel-like alloy wheels with ‘EV’ logos in the centre.

The new Range Rover Electric will have a discreet charging point on the side, rather than in the front grille. Meanwhile, the grille itself is a more closed-off, aerodynamically-efficient design, to help boost range.

Inside, the new Range Rover Electric will again be almost identical to other Range Rover models. The electronic driver’s display will have a different setup, with screens to help motorists maximise range. The sat nav will also have added EV-specific features, such as the ability to locate chargepoints and see at-a-glance how far you can travel on the remaining range.

The freestanding central infotainment touchscreen will run JLR’s acclaimed Pivi Pro system, which looks good, is easy to use and is comprehensively equipped with digital features. There will be a complementary smartphone app, so owners can check on their new Range Rover Electric’s security status, and monitor charging remotely.

Bosses are promising “effortless charging, energy partnerships, software-over-the-air updates and intelligent technology to maximise range” with the new Range Rover Electric.

The new Range Rover Electric will also have the more minimalist centre console design of the latest Range Rover models. Here, the traditional physical heater dials have been removed, with climate control now masterminded through the touchscreen itself.

The new Range Rover Electric will be an exceptionally refined luxury SUV to travel in. It already has active noise cancellation technology, and this will be enhanced further by the inherent silence of its EV drivetrain.

Customers can expect Rolls Royce-style refinement, with the company expecting it to be “the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created”.

The new Range Rover Electric will be a full five-seater with plenty of space. There is a seven-seat version of the regular Range Rover, but it is not yet confirmed if this will extend to the new Range Rover Electric.

New 2024 Range Rover Electric: engines and gearboxes

Technical details of the new Range Rover Electric have not yet been confirmed. It is likely, however, to have an extra-large battery of over 100kWh. Even the existing Range Rover PHEV has a 38.2kWh battery, and the new Range Rover Electric battery may be three times as large.

This should give an EV range of well over 300 miles for the new Range Rover Electric. Luxury customers won’t want to keep stopping to charge up their new model, so bosses will be keen to extend the range as much as possible.

When they do stop to charge, new Range Rover Electric owners will be able to use the very fastest DC rapid chargers, thanks to its 800V architecture. Top-up times of less than half an hour could be possible, despite the super-size capacity of the battery.

The new Range Rover Electric is likely to have a twin-motor design to give all-wheel drive ability. Engineers say it will be just as capable as other Range Rovers, for ability in “all conditions and every terrain”. It even has remarkable wading ability through up to 850mm of water.

The new Range Rover Electric will be powerful, as part of its range-topping status. It’s likely to at least match the 525PS output of the supercharged V8 petrol Range Rover, and may offer even more power on top. This will help offset the expected considerable weight of the new Range Rover Electric – likely to be the heaviest Range Rover ever, due to its weighty EV batteries.
