Suzuki unveils electric e Vitara SUV

Written By Phill Tromans

2025 Suzuki e Vitara

This is the e Vitara, Suzuki's first pure electric car, and it's coming to a showroom near you next summer.

A small SUV that will compete with the likes of the Skoda Elroq, Kia EV3 and MINI Aceman, the Suzuki e Vitara is unrelated to the existing hybrid Vitara – it's bigger and heavier, and based on the Suzuki eVX Concept car revealed at the start of 2023.

Two battery options will be available, one with a 49kWh capacity and another with 61kWh. Alhough Suzuki hasn't officially announced the ranges, the firm has said the larger battery should provide around 250 miles of driving before a recharge is needed. That puts it on a par with the Aceman but the EV3 promises up to 372 miles.

While most models will be front-wheel driven, a four-wheel-drive model badged as the Allgrip-e will also be available.

New 2025 Suzuki e Vitara: price and release date

We can expect to see the e Vitara go on sale in the summer of 2025. No pricing has yet been announced, but with rivals starting at around £31,000, we'd expect to see Suzuki try to slightly undercut that.

The electric e Vitara should be at home in the town as well as on limited off-road terrain, thanks to its optional four-wheel-drive system

New 2025 Suzuki e Vitara: exterior and interior

At 4275mm long the Suzuki e Vitara is 100mm longer than the regular Vitara, and it's wider and taller too. The design very much follows that of an earlier Suzuki concept car, the eVX, with some sharp angles and prominent wheelarches clad in plastic. The e Vitara comes as standard with 18-inch alloy wheels and 19-inch units on higher-spec models.

Inside, the design is more contemporary than the existing Vitara, with a digital driver's display behind the steering wheel and a 10.1-inch central infotainment screen. There are numerous storage areas although the boot space, at 306 litres in capacity, is smaller than some rivals. The Jeep Avenger, for instances, will give you 355 litres, and the Kia EV3 promises 460 litres as well as 25 litres more under the bonnet.

That said, the e Vitara has a sliding rear bench that can move forward or backwards to prioritise legroom or luggage space. Shoving it forward expands the boot space to 320 litres.

New 2025 Suzuki e Vitara: batteries, motor and range

Two battery options will be available for the e Vitara. The first is a 61kWh unit, which is likely to have around 250 miles of range, while the more affordable 49kWh option will likely give you around 200 miles on a single charge. The larger battery has a more powerful motor with 174PS, while the smaller model has 144PS.

The 61kWh model is also available with four-wheel drive (4WD), courtesy of a second motor on the rear axle, which ups the total power to 184PS. This 4WD system is known as Allgrip-e and includes a trail mode that acts like a limited-slip differential, giving extra traction on rough terrain.

The e Vitara is larger than the regular Suzuki Vitara, which hopefully means more space inside
