Should you buy a Mitsubishi ASX?

The Mitsubishi ASX might get ignored by many shopping for their first or next SUV, but that’s not to say it isn’t a worthy purchase. The good thing with being less popular than other models is that prices remain lower, which is a bonus if you’re in the market for an affordable SUV.

What’s the best used Mitsubishi ASX model to buy?

The answer to this question kind of depends on what your priority is. For us, the best ASX is the cheapest ASX, so we’d stick with the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol engine in a fairly humble trim level. The entry-level 2 trim comes with enough for many people, but the 3 trim adds some desirable items for not much cash, and is worth the upgrade. If you want the best all-round version of the ASX, you’re probably looking at one of the 1.6-litre diesels, but these will cost you a good bit more to buy.

• Mitsubishi ASX 2.0L petrol: The sole engine for the ASX  is the 142PS lump that comes mated to either a manual gearbox or an automatic. These return 37.7mpg and up to 50mpg respectively. Note, however, that if you plump for the auto and four-wheel-drive the economy drops away to less than 35mpg, for obvious reasons.

What used Mitsubishi ASX trim levels are available?

The Mitsubishi ASX has been available in two trim levels, with both the Dynamic and Exceed variant offering a decent level of features and functionality.

• The Mitsubishi ASX Dynamic is the more basic of the two, but you do get standard issue features including climate control, cruise control, heated front seats and a rear-view camera. On the outside there are LED headlights.
• The Mitsubishi ASX Exceed is a little more comprehensive with everything seen on the Dynamic car along with an 8-inch infotainment system. This carries DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with TomTom satellite navigation. The exterior is fancier too, thanks to 18-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights as well as privacy glass.
