Alpine A290
Type: small hot hatch | On sale: 2025 | Starting price: £30,000 (est)
The Alpine A290 Beta concept car is our first look at a high-performance small car hot hatch from the sporty French brand that’s due on sale in 2025. Derived from the excitingly reborn new Renault 5 EV, it’s likely to have over 200PS for strong performance, while Alpine has stressed it’s also keen to deliver engaging handling. It will all be wrapped up in a really exciting-looking five-door hatchback bodyshell, with plenty of spoilers, large alloy wheels and even air intakes on the rear doors that we would love to see make production. One thing that won’t, though, is the concept car’s central driving position. Instead, expect a more conventional layout for this Ford Fiesta-sized car that we can’t wait to drive.
Audi A3
Type: hatchback and saloon | On sale: April 2024 | Starting price: £32,610
The Audi A3 is a very popular premium hatchback and saloon in the UK. It has a sporty appearance, family-friendly five-seat interior and all the tech-packed features people associate with the Audi brand. For 2024, the new Audi A3 is being facelifted, with a further-improved infotainment system that now includes a built-in app store, plus sharpened styling outside and in. It goes on sale in April and arrives in the summer, initially in petrol and diesel guise, with plug-in hybrids following later.
Audi A6 e-tron
Type: electric car | On sale: autumn 2024 | Starting price: from £55,000 (est)
The Audi A6 e-tron gives you everything you love about the Audi A6 – its beautifully built and eerily quiet cabin, and general comfort – but with electric power. It’ll have an aerodynamic design on the outside and an infotainment-heavy finish on the inside, which will feel very roomy thanks to the car’s completely flat interior floor. A 100kWh battery gives the Audi a range of more than 300 miles, while front and rear electric motors produce 476PS in total giving the A6 e-tron acceleration of 0-62mph in under four seconds.
Audi Q7
Type: luxury SUV | On sale: March 2024 | Starting price: £66,605
The new Audi Q7 sees the firm's range-topping luxury SUV move even further upmarket. It is visually marked out by a jewel-like new grille, plus the availability of ultra-bright laser lights at the front. Both front and rear lights are also available with futuristic new digital tech. There are new colours on the outside, and within, the infotainment system is now available with third-party apps such as Spotify and Amazon Music. The existing powerful petrol and diesel engines remain, along with the V8 Audi SQ7 range-topper, and prices start from £66,605.
BMW X2 and iX2
Type: SUV and electric SUV | On sale: March 2024 | Starting price: from £39,395
The new BMW X2 and iX2 are the sporty alternatives to the popular BMW X1 and iX1 small family SUV. The X2 has a choice of two petrol engines, including a sporty new BMX X2 M35i xDrive, while the new BMW iX2 is all-electric and has a range of up to 266 miles. While it’s based on the BMW X1, the new BMW X2 and iX2 have more assertive styling, including a swooping coupe-like rear. This does trade a little practicality, but means it will turn heads – and there’s still enough space inside for five. The new BMW X2 and iX2 will take on rivals such as the Audi Q3 Sportback, the Range Rover Evoque and the Volvo XC40 and C40. The new BMW X2 will cost from £39,365 and new BMW iX2 prices start from £56,540.
BMW 5 Series Touring and i5 Touring
Type: estate car | On sale: May 2024 | Starting price: £69,040
The new BMW 5 Series Touring and i5 Touring are premium new estate cars that offer more space, luxury and refinement than ever before. The new BMW 5 Series Touring is a plug-in hybrid, while the new BMW i5 Touring is the first-ever electric BMW 5 Series estate. This version has an EV range of up to 348 miles – and a high-performance new BMW i5 M60 Touring will accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds. Equipped with the latest in BMW digital touchscreen tech, both the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the i5 Touring share the same enlarged 570-litre boot. It expands to a voluminous 1700 litres with the rear seats folded.
BMW M5 Touring
Type: performance estate | On sale: summer 2024 | Starting price: from £120,000 (est)
We already rate the new BMW M5 Competition saloon highly, which makes the prospect of an all-new BMW M5 Competition Touring estate all the more tantalising. Set to use the same 600ps 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, its abilities will be enhanced yet further by xDrive all-wheel drive. This will make it a formidable alternative to the acclaimed new Audi RS6 Avant. Set to arrive here in summer 2024, all this will come at a price, mind. We estimate it will cost upwards of £120,000. But for many enthusiasts and keen car collectors, it's bound to be worth it.
Citroen e-C3
Type: small electric car | On sale: 2024 | Starting price: from under £23,000 (est)
The new Citroen e-C3 aims to help make electric motoring more affordable for the masses. A small electric car with five doors and space for five adults, prices are set to start from under £23,000 for the neatly-styled, crossover-look new Citroen e-C3. This will provide stern competition to the Renault Zoe, new Dacia Spring Electric and the Vauxhall Corsa Electric. It will have a decent electric car range too, with the new Citroen e-C3’s 44kWh battery promising an official range of 199 miles. It will be able to use powerful 100kW DC public rapid chargers, too. On sale in 2024, an even more affordable new Citroen e-C3 may follow in 2025, with a suggested price tag of under £17,500.
Citroen C3 Aircross
Type: small seven-seater SUV | On sale: late 2024 | Starting price: from £20,000 (est)
The new Citroen C3 Aircross is a surprise new model that, while remaining compact, will offer seating for up to seven people across three rows of seats. The decision to make the new Citroen C3 Aircross a seven-seater helps set it apart from the stylish new Citroen C3 and e-C3, which have gained an SUV-style makeover of their own. With appealingly rugged styling and a choice of petrol and electric powertrains, we look to finding out more about the new Citroen C3 Aircross, which will be fully revealed and launched for sale later this year
Dacia Spring Electric
Type: small electric car | On sale: now | Starting price: £14,995
The Dacia Spring Electric – the Romanian firm’s first electric car – wasn’t originally destined for the UK but burgeoning EV sales look to have reversed that decision. So what can we expect? Well, in a word, value. It’s restricted to 78mph to help it achieve its 140-mile range, which is below average for a modern EV, but an incredible price tag from just £14,995 makes up for that. It is one of the cheapest cars you can buy overall, never mind easily being the cheapest EV on sale. Everything else is as you’d expect of a Dacia, it uses old Renault parts and has a cabin that is surprisingly roomy for its size. Could be the budget EV you’ve been waiting for.
Dacia Duster
Type: small SUV | On sale: spring 2024 | Starting price: from under £20,000 (est)
The new Dacia Duster has a refreshing new extra-rugged appearance that aims to underline its lifestyle-friendly appeal. Based on a space-efficient new platform, the Dacia Duster will have more space and practicality for five inside, and a new dashboard design that’s stylish and better-quality. The new Dacia Duster will also be available with a hybrid engine, alongside a punchy 1.2-litre petrol engine. Both 4x4 all-wheel drive and money-saving LPG Bi-Fuel options will be available. Set to challenge a brace of small SUVs from the best-selling Ford Puma and Volkswagen T-Roc, to the value-priced MG ZS and Suzuki S-Cross, the new Dacia Duster will make its official public debut in March 2024 ahead of arriving in UK showrooms in the spring.
Dacia Bigster
Type: SUV | On sale: 2025 | Starting price: from £30,000 (est)
The Dacia Bigster is big by name and, well, big by nature – at 4.6m long it’ll be the biggest car Dacia makes when it’s revealed later in 2024 ahead of going on sale in early 2025. It won’t cost a fortune though, with Dacia targeting an entry price of under £30,000. That’ll buy you an SUV with chunky good looks and an interior that’ll have loads of space and could be offered with seven seats. Dacia has also indicated that the car will be offered as a plug-in hybrid that’ll have a 30-mile electric range that could save you a fortune if you have a charger at home and do lots of short trips.
Ford Kuga
Type: family SUV | On sale: spring 2024 | Starting price: £32,080
The new Ford Kuga is a facelifted and refreshed version of the firm's super-popular family SUV. It's already on sale, with prices starting from £32,080, and first deliveries will begin in the spring. Surprisingly, it's cheaper than the outgoing model, and is set to be just as good to drive. Along with the fresh front end, which includes a full-width LED light bar, the big updates come inside. The latest Ford Sync4 infotainment has a much larger 13.2-inch touchscreen, has twice the computing power and even has 5G connectivity. Naturally, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard too. As before, the new Ford Kuga offers a choice of petrol, hybrid or plug-in hybrid engines.
Ford Puma
Type: small SUV | On sale: now | Starting price: £25,790
The new Ford Puma is a refreshed version of a British best-seller. It was the most popular new car of all in 2023 and is continuing to be a top choice in 2024. To keep it at the top of new car buyers' shopping lists, Ford has enhanced the Puma for 2024 with tweaked styling, a fashionable new colour option and an all-new interior. The improved dashboard has bigger touchscreen tech and a higher-quality feel, while improvements to standard features and safety assist tech make it an even more impressive all-rounder. The spacious interior and extra-large boot remain key selling points too.
Ford Explorer
Type: electric family SUV | On sale: summer 2024 | Starting price: from £40,000 (est)
The new Ford Explorer is a very important electric family SUV for this best-selling brand. Developed with the help of Volkswagen, it is closely related to the VW ID.4 under the skin, but the design outside and in is pure Ford. It pays tribute to the brand’s American roots with a fun, standout look and a high-tech interior. There will be a range of powertrains, including a rear-wheel drive entry-level model with a 218-mile range, and a larger 82kWh battery with a range of up to 335 miles. A high-performance all-wheel drive model will have 335PS for vivid acceleration. It was due to go on sale in 2023, but it has been delayed to summer 2024 to give Ford time to meet new green battery regulations.
Ford Mustang
Type: sports car | On sale: early 2024 | Starting price: from £55,000 (est)
The famous Mustang muscle car is getting an update for 2024 and will retain it's petrol-powered engines, with the mighty 5.0-litre V8 available with the new car. The new Mustang gets an all-new appearance, with a meaner and moodier front end, though it still very much looks like a Mustang. Things have changed inside too, with a new open-plan look that sees a large 12.4-inch digital instrument display. Prices are still to be confirmed, but expect it to cost more than the outgoing model.
Honda CR-V
Type: family SUV | On sale: early 2024 | Starting price: from £45,895
The new Honda CR-V is the latest generation of the firm’s long-running range-topping family SUV. This generation moves even further upmarket, with classy styling and a premium feel to the interior – which is extremely well-equipped even in entry-level Elegance grade. The new Honda CR-V now has an all-hybrid range of petrol engines. Choose either the e:HEV hybrid, or the e:PHEV plug-in hybrid, which has a pure electric range of more than 50 miles. Both have the same 184PS power output. The new Honda CR-V is safer than ever, with an enhanced range of safety assist tech, which will help it take on rivals such as the Toyota RAV4, Ford Kuga and Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Hyundai Santa Fe
Type: large SUV | On sale: 2024 | Starting price: £50,000 (est)
The new Hyundai Santa Fe is an all-new large SUV that will immediately become one of the most distinctive-looking models on the road when it arrives here in the first half of 2024. The square, blocky appearance is extremely modern, and liberates a huge amount of interior space for this seven-seat SUV. It will provide formidable competition to the Land Rover Defender and Discovery, the new Toyota Land Cruiser and its in-house rival, the Kia Sorento. Two versions will be offered, both with a 1.6-litre turbo engine – buyers can choose either hybrid or plug-in hybrid, the latter with a 36-mile pure electric range. Rugged 4x4 running gear will give plenty of off-road capability, too.
Mercedes-Benz CLE
Type: coupe | On sale: spring 2024 | Starting price: from £46,605
The new Mercedes-Benz CLE is a sleek, luxurious two-door coupe that replaces both C-Class Coupe and E-Class Coupe models. It takes on two direct rivals, the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5, with a range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid engines. With ultra-smooth exterior styling and a high-end, tech-packed interior, the new Mercedes-Benz CLE undoubtedly oozes showroom appeal. It should be spacious inside too, despite only having two doors – this gives it the classic coupe profile. That plug-in hybrid, which arrives later in 2024, ensures good eco credentials too. Thanks to an extra-large battery, it will have a pure electric range of at least 62 miles.
MG3
Type: small car | On sale: April 2024 | Starting price: £18,000 (est)
The new MG3 is a much more sophisticated car than the one it replaces. A small hatchback with fresh new style, its arrival is perfectly timed to follow the demise of the Ford Fiesta. MG is hoping the new MG3 can fill the gap, with a roomy five-seat interior, refined new dashboard and ingenious new hybrid engine. Remarkably, it combines 195PS power with predicted economy of over 60mpg. Prices are set to be keen too, and could start from around £18,000. It goes on sale in April with deliveries following a month later.
MINI Cooper
Type: small car | On sale: 2024 | Starting price: £23,090
The new MINI Cooper is a petrol-powered alternative to the new MINI Cooper Electric that also arrives in 2024. Both are significant improvements on today’s MINI Electric. There will be both 184PS Cooper E and 218PS Cooper SE versions. The new MINI Electric will have a more spacious interior, with a high-tech round central touchscreen, while the rest of it will be purer and more minimalist. It will still look like a traditional MINI though – and the new MINI Electric will still drive like a fun, nimble go-kart, too.
MINI Aceman
Type: electric SUV | On sale: late 2024 | Starting price: from £35,000
The new MINI Aceman is an exciting new small SUV alternative to the upcoming new MINI Cooper Electric. It is also the world's first MINI only to be sold as an electric car – no petrol versions will be available. A smaller alternative to the MINI Countryman, the MINI Aceman will offer a choice of electric motors along with two sizes of battery, for a potential range of up to 250 miles. Edgy, modern styling on the outside is backed up by a minimalist interior designed around a high-tech round central touchscreen display. It will have eco-friendly textiles too, with MINI promising no leather or chrome. Prices for the new Volvo EX30 and Jeep Avenger rival are likely to start from around £35,000.

Polestar 4

There will be two versions from launch, each with a generous 100kWh battery giving a range of up to 380 miles. Prices start from £59,900 – and when it arrives later this summer, it will become the UK's first car to go on sale without a rear window. How do you see out the back? Through a clever roof-mounted camera system, that feeds a display where the rear-view mirror normally is.
Polestar 3
Type: electric SUV | On sale: early 2024 | Starting price: from £79,900
Polestar has transformed itself from a maker of fast Volvos to a standalone builder of PHEV and EVs with sensational success (the Polestar 2 for example) – proving just how electrification can transform a brand – and the Polestar 3 is the next step in this process. It gives buyers an SUV option to take on the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla Model X. The new Polestar 3 has a minimalist (but confident) design, as well as a beautifully styled interior with room for four. It'll have a range of 379 miles, all-wheel drive and acceleration of 0-62mph in less than five seconds. Competitive finance packages will balance its meaty £79,900 price.

From the outside, the new Porsche Macan is a bolder, simpler evolution of the current petrol-powered Porsche Macan (which remains on sale for those not yet ready to go fully electric). Inside, it has a high-tech interior with up to three screens, including one on the passenger side that can load third-party apps and stream video. Open for ordering now, with prices from £69,800, the new Porsche Macan arrives towards the summertime.

Owners will be able to travel for much longer between charges, and be more entertained along the way courtesy of new interior tech that includes a clever video streaming feature for passengers. The driver will also enjoy much-reduced acceleration times across the range, with the fastest new Porsche Taycan now offering 0-62mph performance in just 2.4 seconds. The Porsche Taycan luxury electric car continues to be offered in three distinct styles – Sport Saloon, Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo – with a choice of different power outputs, battery sizes and drive types.
Range Rover Electric
Type: luxury SUV | On sale: 2024 | Starting price: from £125,000 (est)

If you're keen to be among the first to own one, the waiting list is now open.
Renault Twingo
Type: small electric car | On sale: 2026 | Starting price: from £17,000
The charming little Renault Twingo is making a comeback – as a super-affordable all-electric car. Sitting below the new electric Renault 5 and Renault 5, the new Renault Twingo will take on other affordable EVs such as the new Dacia Spring and Citroen 3-C3. It’s being built on a high-tech new platform and will have a right-sized battery that delivers a range of around 150-200 miles – perfect for the city centre use it’s being designed for. And by optimising the design and battery size, prices will be kept affordable. Bosses are talking about a starter price of around £17,000, or from around £85 a month, which really would help open up electric cars to an entirely new audience. Best of all, it’s set to have a retro appearance that harks back to the beloved 1990s original – both outside and in.
Renault 5
Type: small electric car | On sale: mid 2024 | Starting price: from £25,000 (est)

Expect a roomy interior, latest-generation technology and a decent driving range of around 250 miles from its 50kWh battery. By not going too big on battery size, prices should be kept in check; expect them to start from around £30,000. And if it’s too big for you, no fear: the Renault 5 three-door supermini from the 1980s will be reborn in 2024 as a retro EV for the modern era, too.

The infotainment screen is bigger than ever – as are the rear seats, which offer enhanced all-round room in the second and third rows. The new Skoda Kodiaq offers a broad range of petrol and diesel engines, plus an extended-range plug-in hybrid for the first time. The firm expects an EV range of more than 62 miles, which should certainly give 7-seater rivals such as the Nissan X-Trail, SEAT Tarraco and Land Rover Discovery Sport something to think about.
Suzuki Swift
Type: small car | On sale: spring 2024 | Starting price: from £18,000 (est)
Meet the new Suzuki Swift, the fourth generation of the Japanese firm's popular, great-value supermini small car. It gains a smart new appearance with upmarket features such as a piano black grille and pronounced wheelarch blisters – a bit like those you find on a sporty Audi. And it's been completely overhauled inside, with a much better-looking dashboard complete with dual-tone plastics and posh metal-look inserts. Owners of the current Suzuki Swift will appreciate the much-improved touchscreen tech, too. Under the bonnet is a fuel-sipping 1.2-litre mild hybrid petrol engine, and you can even get grippy all-wheel drive as an option. Prices are bound to be competitive too, likely starting from around £18,000 when it goes on sale in spring 2024.

It aims to be an alternative to the more expensive Vauxhall Corsa Electric EV. Compared to a regular Corsa with an automatic gearbox, the new Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid costs around £600 more, but offers 20% better fuel economy and much lower CO2 emissions. This will make it a competitive alternative to other pricier small hybrid cars, particularly as it benefits from the good-looking facelift also given to other Corsa models.

Type: electric city car | On sale: mid 2025 | Starting price: from £20,000 (est)
Whip out the long lens and you’ll just about see the Volkswagen ID.2 sauntering over the horizon – it’s a while away, but this Peugeot e-208 rival is still well worth talking about. The VW Group being the well-oiled machine it is, we already have an official sketch of how the car will look (good) and have an idea how much it will cost (about £20,000). That sounds cheap you say? It does doesn’t it. That price tag’s made possible by a tiny 30kWh battery that’ll be good for no more than 120 miles between charges.
Volkswagen ID. GTI
Type: electric hot hatch | On sale: 2026 | Starting price: from £30,000 (est)

It will be a potent new alternative to a Tesla Model 3 and also take the fight to the potent new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. It’s set to be surprisingly affordable too, with Volkswagen bosses hinting at prices that could start from £30,000. Will it mark a rebirth for the people’s sports car? Here’s hoping.
Volkswagen ID.3 GTX
Type: electric hot hatch | On sale: summer 2024 | Starting price: from £45,000 (est)
The Volkswagen ID.3 GTX EV is a hot hatch for the future with the ‘GTX’ badge set to replace the beloved ‘GTI’ as the letters VW sticks on its fast family cars. In terms of power, it actually has more on tap than the range-topping Volkswagen Golf R, with the ID.3 GTX Performance offering a startling 326PS. It combines this with a decent EV range of over 370 miles. The styling has been given a sporty makeover, as has the suspension. Question is, can this £45,000-plus EV be as fun as the hot hatches we know and love?
Volkswagen Golf
Type: family car | On sale: summer 2024 | Starting price: from £28,000 (est)
The new Volkswagen Golf aims to make the famous VW family car even more appealing and desirable. While the facelift doesn't alter the styling too much, bigger changes come inside. An all-new infotainment system is faster and easier to use, and available with extra-large screens of up to 12.9 inches – much larger than the current model. Engines are largely the same, save for the plug-in hybrid new Volkswagen Golf eHybrid. This version gets a much bigger battery, which is almost twice the size of the outgoing car, giving an electric driving range of over 60 miles. The new Volkswagn Golf arrives in the first half of this year and further details, including prices, should be revealed in the spring.
Volkswagen Passat
Type: estate car | On sale: early 2024 | Starting price: from £37,000 (est)
The new Volkswagen Passat is the latest version of a famous model like that dates back to the 1970s – and which will now only be offered as a roomy, ultra-practical estate car. There have been numerous Passat iterations over the years, and it’s this all-new one that is the sleekest and most futuristic-looking yet. Just the thing to take on premium estate car choices such as the Audi A4 Avant and BMW 3 Series Touring. Its aerodynamically-efficient exterior look is complemented by a modern interior, which has a huge freestanding touchscreen in the centre that controls the vast majority of features. As a car designed to attract business users, there’s a lot of clever online functionality to make motoring easier, while corporate drivers will also appreciate the spacious rear seats and boot that stretches to a massive 690 litres even with the seats up. What’s more, as well as regular petrol and diesel engines, the new Volkswagen Passat is available as a plug-in hybrid with an EV range of over 62 miles. This will deliver low company car BiK tax bills – and 50kW rapid charging functionality means drivers will be able to top it up more quickly on the move, too.
Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer
Type: estate car | On sale: summer 2024 | Starting price: from £53,000 (est)
Wish your large Volkswagen estate car was electric? Up to now, you've not had much choice – but to fix this, enter the new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, which arrives in the UK later this summer. A load-lugging alternative to the well-received new Volkswagen ID.7, the ID.7 Tourer adds a huge load bay, capable of swallowing 605 litres of luggage with the seats up, and more than 1700 litres with them folded. It will have the same clean, high-tech interior of the regular car, and will launch with a 77kWh battery. Later, a larger 86kWh battery arrives, which could offer a range of well over 400 miles. Volkswagen is planning a high-performance ID.7 Tourer GTX version, too.
Volkswagen Tiguan
Type: SUV | On sale: early 2024 | Starting price: from £32,500
The Volkswagen Tiguan is VW’s best-selling car in the world and this all-new one aims to continue its position at the top of the tree, and a challenger to family SUVs from the Ford Kuga to the Kia Sportage. With a more streamlined look than the square-edged current model, the new Volkswagen Tiguan comes with a number of styling options to set off the bright colours and large alloy wheels. It’s more high-tech inside too, with a huge freestanding centre touchscreen that replaces virtually all of the buttons inside. A novel added feature is a configurable dial in the centre console, complete with built-in OLED screen. Volkswagen says the new Tiguan is larger than ever, as well as more comfortable, while the efficient range of petrol and diesel engines is now joined by an enhanced eHybrid plug-in hybrid, that’s set to offer a pure electric range of up to 62 miles.
Volkswagen California
Type: campervan | On sale: 2024 | Starting price: £96,225
The new Volkswagen California is the latest generation of a campervan icon. Based on an all-new fuel-efficient platform, it is closely related to the new Volkswagen Multivan underneath, but has plenty of California coolness on top. For the first time, the Volkswagen California will be available as a plug-in hybrid, as well as regular petrol and diesel engines. The interior is all-new and the super-practical living area has been given a full makeover – there are even now rear sliding doors on both sides. The pop-up roof is sleeker than ever and a weekend away in a California has never been more glam – there's even a new smartphone app to add a cool layer of tech.
Volvo EX90
Type: luxury electric SUV | On sale: 2024 | Starting price: £96,225
The new Volvo EX90 is the pure electric successor to the Volvo XC90 seven-seat luxury SUV (which will remain on sale for a while as a plug-in hybrid). Easily the most upmarket Volvo ever, launch cars will cost upwards of £96k, with the top-spec version breaking the £100k mark. New Volvo EX90 will be getting one of the world’s safest cars ever though, one that comes with Lidar as standard, so it’s ready to go fully autonomous in the future. Clean and modern in its appearance, the new Volvo EX90 has an upmarket and sustainability-focused interior, plus cutting-edge infotainment technology from Google. It will be more spacious than ever, while refinement, comfort and performance will all set new standards, promises Volvo.
