The new Ford Puma is an updated version of a British best-seller that brings an all-new interior and much-improved technology.
The new Ford Puma small SUV also has tweaked styling, new colours and greater visual differences between different models in the line-up.
Meanwhile the sporty new Ford Puma ST continues, with an eco-friendly engine and convenient automatic gearbox.
Later in 2024, the new Ford Puma Gen-E small electric car will be revealed as well, broadening the model’s appeal yet further.
The new Ford Puma will provide refreshed competition to strong-selling rivals such as the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, Vauxhall Mokka, Volkswagen T-Cross and value-priced MG ZS.
New 2024 Ford Puma: price and release date
The new Ford Puma is now on sale with prices starting from £25,790. Prices are similar to the previous model, ensuring the new Ford Puma remains a good-value option.
Now it has been released, first deliveries of the new Ford Puma should begin in the spring.
New 2024 Ford Puma: exterior and interior
The new Ford Puma has discreet updates to its exterior. It is already one of the most stylish small SUVs and Ford has seen no reason to change this.
The most obvious updates are to the headlights, which have a new light signature and cleaner appearance. Optional dynamic matrix LED headlights are available, using predictive dynamic bending light to help drivers see into corners. There are new lights at the rear too.
The new Ford Puma is available in core Titanium, ST-Line and ST-Line X models. Each now receives a unique front bumper, grille and alloy wheel design. There is a choice of six colours including the new Cactus Grey pictured here, while the new Ford Puma also gets puddle lamps that project the puma logo onto the ground.
Inside, the new Ford Puma has an all-new dashboard. This is described as a sports car-style cockpit, which wraps around occupants. It features two high-mounted screens as standard – a 12.8-inch digital instrument display and 12.0-inch centre touchscreen.
The new Ford Puma’s infotainment system runs the latest Ford SYNC 4 setup, which has twice the computing power of the old SYNC 3 system. It also has 5G connectivity. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now wireless, and there is a wireless smartphone charger too.
The new Ford Puma has Amazon Alexa Built-in. This allows drivers to ask natural language commands such as what’s on my calendar today?’. The Ford system itself also has natural voice recognition.
The new Ford Puma has fewer buttons inside, with the climate controls now incorporated into the touchscreen. There is a flat-bottom steering wheel and a new sliding centre armrest.
The new Ford Puma remains very practical. The famous 80-litre MegaBox remains – this is an underfloor compartment in the boot that’s big enough to swallow the contents of a small supermarket trolly. It also allows two sets of golf clubs to stand upright in the boot.
The new Ford Puma’s boot is particularly large, with 450 litres of space, which extends to 1216 litres with the rear seats folded.
New 2024 Ford Puma: engines and performance
The new Ford Puma’s core engine is the 1.0-litre three-cylinder Ford EcoBoost turbo petrol motor, offered with various different power outputs. All have 48-volt mild hybrid technology, which extends the engine stop-start and helps boost fuel efficiency.
The most affordable engine is the 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid 125, with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 125PS engine offers 0-62mph performance in 9.8 seconds and can average up to 53.3mpg. There is an optional seven-speed Powershift automatic available too.
The more powerful new Ford Puma 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid 155 has the seven-speed Powershift automatic as standard. It does 0-62mph in 8.7 seconds and still averages 51.3mpg.
There is also a sporty new Ford Puma ST. This has tuned suspension and bigger alloy wheels. It is now only available with a 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid 170 engine and Powershift automatic gearbox. It does 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds and averages 47.0mpg.
The new Ford Puma ST is also available with an optional Handling Pack. This has even sportier suspension, with stiffer settings and a lower ride height. Suspension springs are finished in Ford Performance Blue.
Active safety is improved on the new Ford Puma. The intelligent adaptive cruise control with stop & go and lane centring is more natural to use. It also has predictive speed assist that varies cruising speed for bends, roundabouts and when entering and leaving motorways.
The new Ford Puma also now offers a 360-degree surround view camera system. This gives a bird’s eye view when parking, to help avoid scrapes.
