Used Aston Martin Vanquish for sale: everything you need to know

The Aston Martin Vanquish was one of the most iconic supercars the company has produced, and it still is, despite ending its run in 2018. That means these are now available used as not only collector items but also high performance luxury grand tourers for daily use.

To be clear, there were two runs of the Vanquish, the first running from 2001 to 2007 and then the second generation variant ran from 2012 to 2018 – with several special editions too. This was the successor to the iconic Aston Martin Vantage that was made from 1993.

This was the first model to feature a unique aluminium composite chassis with a carbon fibre backbone. Combined with the V12 engine and independent suspension it makes for a powerful performance with stand-out handling – while still keeping that classic Aston comfort and luxury.

The first run featured the Vanquish V12 and the Vanquish S, while the second has the simply named Vanquish – with plenty of special editions too. All of these feature a 5.9-litre V12 engine and automatic gearbox. These all come in either a two-seater variant or a 2+2 option. The later models also feature newer gearboxes with Touchtronic III which mean faster times off the mark.

As you might expect the later generation features new interiors with Alcantara and stitched leather in a range of colour options plus an updated infotainment system.

There are also convertible versions of these models available, for example the Vanquish S (2017-2018) offers a Vanquish S Volante model that has a removable roof. 

Key rivals for the Aston Martin Vanquish include the Ferrari California, McLaren 600LT, Porsche Panamera and Bentley Continental. 

Should you buy a used Aston Martin Vanquish?

The Aston Martin Vanquish is a great car if you want something that gives you a wide range of options across price points. You can get an older model and save money, while still investing in a classic, or go newer for more up-to-date features and faster performance options.

In all cases expect excellent handling and lots of fun from these rear-wheel drive cars that pack in huge V12 engines delivering all the power. And you can rest at ease as many of the later models feature carbon-ceramic disc brakes with ventilation to ensure braking is at its best.

The suspension is worth mentioning as it features anti-dive geometry combined with coil springs and adaptive dampers in the front and anti-lift geometry, anti-roll bar and adaptive dampers in the rear all making for a superb handling experience – at speed or in comfort.

There are several options across the years but all feature a 5.9-litre V12 petrol engine capable of 558 BHP in the older models and up to 603 BHP in the Volante variant.

What’s the best used Aston Martin Vanquish model to buy?

The Aston Martin Vanquish comes with the same 5.9-litre V12 petrol engine in the Vanquish models, the AM03, but has a slightly different AM06 variant in the Vanquish S range. Both feature a 6-speed automatic gearbox and output a 0-60mph time of at least 4.6 seconds.

Go newer, with the second generation, from 2012, and you have the AM28 engine for 2012 to 2014 or the AM29 for 2014 to 2018 – both are still 5.9-litre V12 petrol. In both cases you get a 6-speed gearbox for cars 2012-2014 and an 8-speed option for those 2014-2018. These come with quite a few variants including two-door coupe, convertible, shooting-brake and speedster.

So if you're looking to keep the budget reasonable but still want a more modern spec then the Vanquish from 2012 onwards could be the best option for you. If you don't mind a more classic setup then you could save money while still getting that powerful 5.9-litre V12 engine in the older variants from as early as 2001 up to 2007.

Used Aston Martin Vanquish fuel economy and performance

• Aston Martin Vanquish (2001-2007): This comes in a few variants across that age range but the general layout gets you that 5.9-litre V12 petrol with a 6-speed automatic transmission capable of between 542 and 576 BHP topping out at 200 MPH with a 0-62 MPH time of 4.5 seconds. Expect to get around 15 MPG out these models and an average CO2 output of 342 g/km.
• Aston Martin Vanquish (2012-2018): The newer models still give you a 5.9-litre V12 only these come with up to a 9-speed automatic transmission and churn out up to 630 BHP for a 0-62 MPH time of 3.5 seconds. You'll get, at best, 21 MPG combined and this pumps out CO2 at around 302 g/km.

• The Aston Martin Vanquish (2001-2007) has the V12 Vanquish and V12 Vanquish S variants. Some of the S models came with optional Sport Dynamic Packages which stiffened up the ride. The S also has new wheels, a variation on the nose shape, raised boot lid, third brake light and a small front splitter.
• The Aston Martin Vanquish (2012-2018) comes with lots of trim options across the various models of which there are: Coupe, Volante, and S variants of these. Trims include Standard, Carbon Black, Carbon White, S, S Ultimate, S Volante, and Volante.
