The new Vauxhall Frontera will cost the same price for petrol and electric models when it goes on sale in the Autumn.
A more affordable alternative to the popular Vauxhall Mokka and Vauxhall Mokka Electric, the Frontera is a spacious small SUV that should offer decent practicality for small families.
The new Vauxhall Frontera will be available both as a pure electric model, called Frontera Electric, and a petrol-powered version with a fuel-saving 48V hybrid petrol engine. Prices will start at just £23,495 for both models, which is notable because there's normally a substantial difference between pure-electric and petrol-powered models.
There will also be a seven-seat version of the new Vauxhall Frontera, following the initial launch of the regular five-seat model.
The new Vauxhall Frontera is closely related to the new Citroen e-C3 and new Citroen C3 range. Vauxhall and Citroen share the same parent company, Stellantis.
Other alternatives to the new Frontera include the Renault Captur and upcoming new Renault 4, the Volkswagen T-Cross and the value-priced MG ZS and MG ZS EV.
New 2024 Vauxhall Frontera price and release date
The new Vauxhall Frontera will cost from £23,495 when it goes on sale in the Autumn, with deliveries in the winter or in early 2025.
Notably, that starting price applies to both the Frontera Electric and the petrol-powered model. Vauxhall is particularly proud of that, and claims that the average price difference between petrol and electric cars is 31%.
That starting price applies to the entry-level 1.2-litre petrol engine with 100PS, as well as the Electric model, both in Design trim. The more powerful 136PS petrol version costs from £24,995.
The higher-spec GS trim starts at £25,895 for the 100PS petrol and the Frontera Electric, or £27,395 for the 136PS petrol model.
New car customers will get a free Octopus Energy Ohme Pro wallbox, with installation, for free when they buy online, or they can select a year's free charging at Tesco stores nationwide, or £675 of credit with Octopus Electroverse. Tesco customers can also collect 50,000 Clubcard points when they buy new from a Vauxhall retailer.
New 2024 Vauxhall Frontera: exterior and interior
The new Vauxhall Frontera has a rugged appearance, which aims to contrast with the sportier and more modern-looking Vauxhall Mokka. It has lots of SUV-style cues, including pronounced wheelarches, a boxy profile and upright front end.
The new Vauxhall Frontera has a distinctive black ‘Vizor’ at the front end. This blends the eco LED headlights into a closed grille carrying the central Vauxhall griffin. The LED daytime running light pattern is distinctive.
The new Vauxhall Frontera has a bold C-pillar at the rear, which can be enhanced with two-tone paint. It also has a wraparound rear screen and eye-catching split tail lamps – plus bold ‘Frontera’ lettering on the bootlid.
Inside, the new Vauxhall Frontera has a modern appearance with dual 10.0-inch displays as part of the wraparound Vauxhall Pure Panel. It has wireless connectivity (with a cooling function to protect smartphones from overheating) and features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
The new Vauxhall Frontera features a row of physical buttons on the centre console, rather than running everything through the touchscreen, which should make it easier to use. A square steering wheel has been designed to make it easier to get in and out.
The car is a five-seater as standard, but a seven-seat version with three rows of seats is planned for the future.
Other smart features inside the new Vauxhall Frontera include a flexible strap in the centre console that allows larger items such as tablets to be safely carried. Open stowage areas throughout the cabin have rubber lining to stop rattles and keep things from sliding around.
The new Vauxhall Frontera promises impressive practicality. Even with the rear seats up, it will have a 460-litre boot. With them folded, it expands to 1600 litres. Optional functional roof rails allow roof boxes with a load of more than 200kg to be carried.
Rear seat passengers in the new Vauxhall Frontera also get integrated smartphone pockets in the backrests of the front seats.
Size-wise, the new Vauxhall Frontera is 4380mm long, placing it between the smaller Vauxhall Mokka (4151mm) and the larger new Vauxhall Grandland (4650mm).
New 2024 Vauxhall Frontera: engines and gearboxes
The new Vauxhall Frontera offers a choice of both pure-electric and 48V mild-hybrid petrol powertrains.
The Frontera Electric has a 113PS electric motor and a choice of two batteries. Vauxhall says the regular battery will have a range of up to 186 miles, and a 'Long Range' version will have a range of up to 248 miles.
The new Vauxhall Frontera Electric will have 100kW DC fast-charge capability, so will be able to top up from 20% to 80% in around 25 minutes at a public rapid charger.
The petrol-powered new Vauxhall Frontera uses a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. This clever system includes a 28PS electric motor for "significantly lower" CO2 emissions. Called the Vauxhall Frontera Hybrid, it will offer either 100PS and 205Nm or 136PS and 230Nm outputs, both paired with a six-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.
Like all small SUVs, the new Vauxhall Frontera will have a space-efficient front-wheel drive setup. It should combine nimble handling with a decent ride quality. It will have light steering, good visibility and a comprehensive array of safety assist technology.

The new Vauxhall Frontera Electric will be a value-priced EV – but there will also be a petrol-powered alternative using fuel-saving mild hybrid technology.
The new Vauxhall Frontera is a small SUV, similar in size to today’s Vauxhall Crossland as well as rivals such as the Renault Captur and Volkswagen T-Cross. It won’t be as large as the original 1990s Vauxhall Frontera.
